CLASSROOM INFORMATION
SCHOOL TELEPHONE-903-295-5120
SCHOOL COLORS-blue & gold
SCHOOL BREAKFAST COST $.75--LUNCH COST $1.25--EXTRA MILK COST $.25
BUSES-Run at 7:30AM-students may go to the cafeteria or gym.
Students go to the room at 8 and the tardy bell rings at 8:10 and
they must get a tardy slip in the office. Attendance is taken at
10:00 and they will be marked absent if not at school at 10.
Students are dismissed to load buses or cars at 3:00. For the safety
of the children, I must allow them to go home every day in the usual
way unless I have a note from you. If a change is to occur, please
send me a note, or for unexpected change, notify the office, and I
will receive the message. The children are not allowed to go home
with a friend if it means riding a bus other than their own. If your
child is to walk home or ride a bicycle, please send me a note
giving your permission.
VOLUNTEERS are welcome at P.T.E. but please wear a badge for safety
reasons.
SPECIAL CLASSES-Library and computer classes will begin soon. Please
return the library books each day!
HOMEWORK
Reading-Our goal is to encourage each child read and to develop a
lifelong love of reading. As with anything else we learn to do, the
more practice we receive, the more skilled we become, and the more
we enjoy it. With this in mind, your child will need to read at
least 20 minutes every night. He may choose anything he enjoys
reading and will be responsible for recording what he reads each
night on his reading log. It will be in their notebook.
Math-Each child will need to memorize the basic addition and
subtraction facts this year. Additional math homework will be set
home as needed to review a skill that needs to be reinforced.
Spelling-A spelling test will be given on Thursday and will consist
of 15-20 words used in writing. A word list will be sent home in a
folder on Monday. Please help your child review the words each
evening.
Notebooks-Please check your child's notebook each day for various
practice work, tests, notes, and other information. Any daily work
or test with a number grade has been recorded in my grade book.
Taking a few minutes to go over these papers and correcting mistakes
will benefit your child greatly! Please check the work daily where
you can congratulate them and help them with anything that may have
been a problem. There is a place to initial that you have seen your
child's work inside the notebook. Please help your child get into
the habit of bringing the notebook back to school each day. The
purpose of the notebook is to help your child stay organized and to
ensure good communication between home and school. Please remind
your child to put the notebook in their backpack to return it to
school. If you are out of town, another person may sign it for you.
It is important to return it to school every day! You can write
comments or questions on the agenda form and I will try to answer
your questions. Thanks for your help!
Grading-We have four reporting periods or nine week reporting
periods during the year. Report cards will usually be sent home on
the Friday following the end of each grading period. Check the
Classroom Calendar or School Calendar for the dates. We will have
scheduled conferences in the fall and spring or if needed. Please
don't hesitate to contact me if you have a concern.
Medications-All medications must be administered by our school
nurse. Please send her a written note so that she may administer it
to your child. If your child has a health problem, please talk to
the nurse directly so that she can meet the needs of your child.
Birthdays-Birthdays are a special time. If you would like to send
treats for your child's birthday, please feel free to do so. A note
in advance would be appreciated. Please mail birthday invitations
unless the whole class is invited. This will avoid hurt feelings.
Class Parties-We will have four parties this year: Christmas,
Valentine's Day, Easter, and End of Year. Please sing up to help
with these parties. We usually have some special class events like
the Apple Festival, Thanksgiving Feast, Christmas Around the World
Program, 100 Days of School Event, Field Day, St. Patrick's Day, and
several others if we have enough volunteers so please sign up to
help. We have a trip to the zoo in the spring and will need all of
you. Thanks!
Discipline-We have a discipline plan for our class. Please read this
carefully with your child, sign it, and return it on the first day
of school.
Thanks for sharing your child with me. I am confident that second
grade will be a wonderful experience for your child!
